    Course Description: "Postural Control 101" is designed for the beginner to intermediate therapist in search of a comprehensive course on the development of postural control in children. This course takes an evidence-based look at children of various ages and stages in development. The development of normal postural control as influenced by the neuromotor, somatosensory, vestibular, and musculoskeletal systems will be explored. Motor learning theories will be used to highlight the importance of experience, sensory feedback, and practice to the development of effective postural control. Various assessment tools as well as therapeutic interventions will also be explored. Case studies are used for practical application and to illustrate core concepts.

    Contact Hours: 2 Contact Hours

    Course Objectives:
    1. Describe the development of postural control systems and the influence of that development on gross- and fine-motor development.
    2. Discuss atypical development of postural control and its influence on the development of gross- and fine-motor skills.
    3. Identify appropriate assessment tools available for the evaluation of postural control.
    4. Identify appropriate treatment techniques for facilitating reactive and anticipatory postural control.
    5. Apply the knowledge gained in this chapter to specific case studies of children with postural control deficits.
